The City of Rhodes (Rodos) was founded in 408 BC and is the island's capital. The Old Town of Rhodes has a medieval feel to it with its Castle and Fortress walls surrounding the old town from the fourteenth century when the Knights of St. John occupied Rhodes.

Rhodes Island has its fair share of good beaches, sunshine as well as history and culture. Whether you are looking for a lively European resort with modern facilities or a more quiet traditional resort Rhodes Island has both. 

Transportation - The Airport is on the West Coast about 17km from Rhodes Town. Flights are available to Athens and Thessaloniki as well as several islands such as Kos, Mykonos, Santorini etc. For more information see our Flights Section. Rhodes Town is a popular holiday destination in Greece. The lively New Town with many Shops, Hotels, Taverns, Restaurants, Bars and Discos sits along side a spectacular sandy coastline. Then within the fortress walls of the Old Town of Rhodes you will step back into history and walk the narrow streets and alleyways where the Knights of St. John once lived. The old town has many shops, cafe's,  bars and restaurants. Lindos is a very popular village on Rhodes Island. This picturesque village of whitewashed houses on the hillside under the Ancient Acropolis is well preserved and is a pedestrian only area. Its golden sandy beach is set in a sheltered bay with its blue Mediterranean Sea. There are many bars, taverns and shops in the village square.

Ixia situated on the west coast is the closest resort to Rhodes Town. Its most popular for a lively beach holiday with water sports. Its strong winds along the coast offer ideal conditions for wind surfing.  In the evening the town comes to life with a good selection of bars and restaurants.

Falaraki is a lively resort built around a sandy bay. During the day you can enjoy the beach life with its water sports, taverns and beach bars. Then at night the resorts centre comes to life to the satisfaction of those looking for the loud and buzzing night life.

Rhodes Island Weather

During the warmer months of June, July, August and September the daily temperatures normally reach an average top of 30ºC, (86ºF). May and October are a little cooler with the average high temperature of 24ºC (75ºF). January is normally the coldest month with an average high temperature of 15ºC (59ºF) and average low temperature of 9ºC (47ºF).
