The Old Fortress - the Venetians
completed the fortress in the 14th centaury which was eventually
destroyed by the British in 1864. Today its has been restored to
its former glory. In the same area is the Church of St. George,
Byzantine Gallery, a museum and a bell tower that strikes every
hour.

The New Fortress - this 350 year
old fortress has a gallery with various exhibits. Concerts and
other events are held here at various dates throughout the year.
The New Fortress offers views good
views of all of Corfu Town and its a popular picnic spot.

The Church of St. Spyridon - St.
Spyridon, born 270 AD is the Patron Saint of Corfu. It is
for this reason you would find most of the local men are called
Spiros. The church was built in 1590 and today houses the actual
remains of St. Spyridon. It is strongly believed that many
miracles have been performed by St. Spyridon and each year he is
given a new pair of new slippers as he has worn out his old ones
wondering the island doing good deeds. Pilgrims (Orthadox
Christians) from all over the world visit the Church daily.

such as the Byzantium Museum and Archeological Museum.

Visit the Achillion Palace - Situated
in the village of Gastouri, 9km south of Corfu Town. Once the home of
Empress Elizabeth of Austria in 1862, a hospital and barracks in the
World Wars, the first Greek Casino in 1962 it is now a Museum. Its
grounds over looking the sea and full of statues was used in 1981 for
the James Bond Movie, For Your Eyes Only.
